Dear Blog Reader

Dear Blog Reader,

There has not been a lot of blog lately and I can’t even promise there will be a lot of blog in the near future but there will be some blog today.

I was fortunate to have space in the first edition of Wabi Sabi Magazine recently to provide articles from some of our community as well as introduce The Yoga Connection and me. And as the numbers and views keep growing I thought I’d share my piece here.

(And not just for the instant gratification of pushing publish and immediately being filled with inspiration and motivation for future essays that will spill off my fingers in thoughtful, coherent paragraphs. Mostly, not for that reason. But also because as the dazzling man himself says, “If I didn’t do this well, I just wouldn’t have anything to do… I can’t cook, and I’d be a terrible housewife.” ― Freddie Mercury)

If you’re new to the site, or yoga, hopefully this might catch you up a bit on what we’re all about.

Jane Lowe - The Yoga Connection, New Zealand's Yoga GuideThe Yoga Connection – New Zealand Gets Nationwide Yoga Website

Yoga is having quite the moment. Which in real yoga terms is probably nothing more than a simple drop in the ocean of its long and ancient lineage. The ubiquitous yoga mat tucked under arms or poking out of bags is now a standard sight throughout the country and if there was ever a national stamp of approval, then our national team of rugby players posing in down dog would surely be it.

The significant groundswell of the yoga movement worldwide has created an opportunity for a website that caters for all yoga needs in New Zealand.

The Yoga Connection is the only nationwide site running as a central hub for studio listings with links and studio details for all New Zealand regions, an events calendar, a job board, a classes calendar and page, and a private lessons page.

Founder, freelance journalist and yoga-loving yogini Jane Lowe says all of the information is sourced and collated in the one space.

“Initially I thought it would be helpful to publish all of the yoga events that were happening in Auckland, together in one spot via a website and online but the support and enthusiasm from the yoga community has meant that I’ve now relaunched the site with a nationwide focus, having up-to-date yoga information available around the clock.”

Jane says that The Yoga Connection enables all New Zealand yoga studio owners and teachers to share what they have to offer outside of their immediate community so students, whether they are local or visiting, have easily accessible information they can reference on their phone or screen of choice.

“I regularly get emails and texts from overseas visitors asking me for recommendations too and it’s great to point them in the right direction.”

She writes of her own experiences as a yoga student on the blog, confessing to drinking more coffee than kombucha, trying and failing to like sauerkraut and being tormented by beach handstands on Instagram.

“We also have a regular Featured Yogi section on the blog with a question and answer format and another page called YogaTalk available for contributors with yoga and meditation, nutrition, health, the environment and natural beauty products being topics covered so far.”

Space for advertorial content is included as well as the ability to place advertising and promotional posters.

“We’re big supporters of local products and businesses, particularly those associated with health and wellness. It’s great to be able to share what they’re about with our wider yoga community.”

The Yoga Connection is all about connecting anyone, anywhere, wanting to know what’s happening on the New Zealand yoga scene and to encourage people within the industry and like-minded businesses to make use of what the site offers.

“This has been a labour of love and based on the incredible feedback it is worth every minute. We’re witnessing a growing number of yoga teachers now working in New Zealand along with many yoga studios opening up across the country and it’s exciting to be part of this. I can see the interest in yoga and it’s affiliated lifestyle infiltrating the lives of everyday New Zealanders. It really is growing exponentially and it’s a privilege to support the community.”
