A Mix And A Mingle
Some people are scared of spiders. Some people are frightened of the dark or have a fear of heights. And some people would rather eat their right arm than stand up and speak out loud in front of people who will be looking at them and actively listening AND be witness to a shaky voice, knocking knees and sweaty armpits.
Let me be clear: I would rather cuddle a spider my own body weight, in a blackout on top of the Sky tower, than speak to a room of any looking people. I know it’s a common enough feeling and as comforting as that is, it’s more of a comfort to draw on when the deed is over. Not beforehand when I‘ve just offered you cash to take my book of notes and speak for me. Not then.
Anyway, no biggie but we held a little gathering for the Auckland community that I’ve connected with through this site. The plan is to hold more, and in other centres when we can, but there needed to be a first and I was so incredibly grateful to be supported by the gorgeous humans who showed up. They shared a delicious breakfast, listened to what TYC is all about, the planned changes going forward and did a little mixing and mingling in real life. With no emojis!
Thankfully, due to a temporary loss of consciousness (always handy I feel when one is faced with anxiety-inducing situations) and after sinking a whole spray bottle of Rescue Remedy, I stood, I spoke, I shook and then I sank gratefully to my chair when the longest eight-ish minutes of my life was over.
Not to overdramatise it or anything.
And, as is so often the case, that glorious relief when it was over allowed me to give it some grown up perspective and absorb all the energy spinning around.
So here are some photos from the first TYC event; a happy experience due to a lot of love in the room and hugs instead of handshakes. Possibly rough around the edges in delivery but a little bit glittery too, I like to think.
(These are just a sample, there are plenty more over on Facebook if you’d like to take a look…)
A little shout out for when we do this again – to have you on our data base and because Facebook can be tricky for me connecting with those on my personal page and those on The Yoga Connection page, it would be awesome if you’d subscribe to the newsletter. That’s our best email list plus the first place for newsy things. There’s no pressure for anything else so if you’d prefer not to and you’re interested make sure we’ve connected on Facebook or Instagram.
If you’re interested in posting on the site and would like a summary of upcoming changes and charges, then please let me know at jane@theyogaconnection.co.nz and I’ll send you the deets.
We held the event at the beautiful space of Greenleaf Organics in Kingsland with amazing food, coffee and smoothies, and were taken care of by owners Sarah and Mike and their lovely staff who made it so easy and welcoming.
All of these beautiful pics, including the feature image, were taken by photographer Sarah Alice Lee who, of course, is also a fabulous yogini. I didn’t even notice her taking pictures of me, that’s how comfortable she made me feel.
The end.
Until next time when I’ll be working the room like a pro.
