37/50 Spring Has Sprung

1. I still can’t sleep

I am taking a Game of Thrones size army of drugs and still waking through the night, most nights. For a while there I thought we (me and my non-chatty psychiatrist) were getting there. I had a couple of nights where I slept for six hours. In a row! I can’t even! But now it’s like a distant dream…

I got over-confident. The grogginess in the morning meant I stayed up longer. Then it got later and later, till I was in my happy place of coming alive around 11pm and completely wired at 3am because I wasn’t sticking to the strict timetable explained to me of taking said drugs.

Also these Spring birds are super loud. And a tad happy for my liking. Let’s ease into it my feathered friends.

In holistic and wellness news though, I am rubbing a mix of essential oils on the soles of my feet and back of my neck, sprinkling lavender on my pillow (so much, in fact, it smells like loo spray) and stroking my crystals each night. I talk to them too. Please, please, please knock me out and I’ll smile with my eyes at strangers who drive around puddles.*

I’ve got samples of oil capsules to try too once I’m off all the hard stuff. I’m basically ready to be saved.

*Actually, I can’t promise that.

2. The early bird catches the gift

I’ve opened, eaten, worn and used all the early birthday gifts I’ve received so far. So far, she says. Bring ’em on, there’s plenty of room for more.

It’s a family tradition reaching ages back to my mother who at Christmas used to put her gifts from friends and family under the tree with the paper totally unwrapped and the chocolate almond boxes empty.

‘Oh’, she’d say opening an already open perfume bottle. ‘That’s from -, isn’t it gorgeous?!’

No shame in her game.

3. Layering up, layering down

Spring is actually my favourite season. Not just because it’s my Birthday Month (#birthdaymonthisarealthing #janesbirthdaymonthisevenrealer #yo) but because it’s the promise of summer to come although the weather’s still unpredictable and wild and because I adore magnolia trees. Also did I mention it’s my Birthday Month?

Only problem is how much longer I can get away with wearing a LOT of clothing. I’m always cold which works well for winter however it’s around now I start looking Teletubby-ish or else I try and pretend I’m not cold while my lips turn blue.

It’s possibly not my most attractive month but then I’m all about the natural, me (#yoga #yo).*

*Getting older and cooler, yo.

What’s your favourite season? And any further sleep tips that don’t involve taking more tablets? Much appreciated!
