20/50 After Class
1. The sprinkles
Driving home from yoga tonight I heard a couple of young men on the radio discussing how ridiculous it was that a mother on Facebook made a fuss regarding confectionary sprinkles.
Yup, sprinkles. Apparently Countdown Supermarket had labelled their pink sprinkles for girls and the blue for boys.
The young men (I’m assuming, they sounded young) were up in arms at a world gone mad. They couldn’t believe the post drew thousands of comments. Because who cares, right?
Oh, young men. We have a narcissistic, misogynistic orange toddler and a lunatic sporting a bowl cut threatening to blow each other up and you’re saying blatant sexism aimed at children is ridiculous?
I wish you got it. I wish you got that some of us want our babes to grow up without fear of not fitting the colour assigned to them.
I agree with you. It is ridiculous.
We’re kind of on the same page.
2. Whoa there, Nelly
Crowded or rapidly emptied, the changing room where showering is the norm and the one where it’s not is like night and day.
Go to hot yoga or a Bikram class and you’ll be getting your kit off without a care within the first week. Sharing showers, been there, done that.
Non-sweaty classes run a more modest ship. You’ll generally be able to bend down to put your shoes on without making eye contact with someone’s lady bits.
Should this be part of the Studios’ page descriptions? I was slightly traumatised with my first full on, whoa there Nelly, that’s a lot of nudity before breakfast type situation. Perhaps a heads-up might save lives.
It’s a conundrum. I’ll get back to you.
3. Stickers
When studios hold 30-day or 40-day challenges you’ll find a chart on the wall and stickers for students to track their progress.
As I left class (and a modestly attired changing room) there was a rush for the wall as stickers were stuck. There was a strong pull to follow but I knew my place. I wasn’t deserving, I hadn’t signed up.
Not to get over dramatic or anything but it’s a sad day when you turn right instead of left. Stickerless.
How do you work the changing room? Signed up for a challenge? Feel like sharing stickers? And those sprinkles… love to know your thoughts!
